About Children of Israel
Not Your Typical "Rust Belt" Shul...
Founded over a century ago, Children of Israel has been the heart and soul of Jewish life in Youngstown, Ohio. Established by dedicated Jewish immigrants who came to build a new life in America while holding fast to their sacred traditions, the shul has served as a makom tefillah, a beis medrash, and a warm and welcoming center for the Jewish community throughout its rich history.

While many small-town communities have faded over time, Children of Israel continues to proudly uphold the eternal values of Torah, Halacha, and mesorah, providing a stable and vibrant Orthodox presence in Youngstown. Our members are deeply committed to minyanim, Shabbos and Yom Tov, and ongoing Torah learning, creating an environment that is both spiritually uplifting and personally meaningful.

Despite being a small out-of-town community, our shul offers an intimate, warm, and family-like atmosphere where every person matters, and everyone’s presence is felt. We cherish our rich legacy while embracing the needs of contemporary Jewish life, serving both lifelong residents and those who have newly joined our kehillah.

Children of Israel stands as a proud testimony to the perseverance of Jewish life in America’s heartland — a beacon of Judaism in Youngstown that remains steadfast in its mission: to serve Hashem, support one another, and sustain Torah life for generations to come.
